Leading the Charge in Waste Management

Interstate Waste Services (IWS) and its NYC affiliate, Action Environmental Services, recently celebrated their 25th anniversary with significant acquisitions, reinforcing their status as the leading provider of solid waste and recycling services in the Tri-State area. These strategic moves aim to enhance service efficiency and sustainability for communities across New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut.

Michael DiBella, CEO of IWS, stated, "2024 has been a transformative year as we expanded operations while upholding our family-first ethos. This milestone reflects our team's dedication to safety, service, and innovation."

Action's Role in NYC's CWZ Transition

In 2024, Action made strides in New York City by acquiring JORO Carting and Viking Sanitation, increasing its operational reach in Brooklyn. This positions them to effectively implement the city's Commercial Waste Zones (CWZ) initiative, which aims to optimize waste collection for safety, sustainability, and efficiency. Action was awarded 14 CWZs, the highest for any hauler, showcasing its leadership in commercial waste management.

DiBella emphasized, "Our goal is to deliver excellent customer service safely through investments in people, equipment, and technology. We're focused on a smooth transition into this new chapter of waste management."

To align with CWZ protocols, Action is enhancing safety training for new employees and upgrading vehicles with AI-enabled features to comply with NYC's emissions standards. They also launched actioncarting.com as a resource hub for businesses navigating the CWZ requirements.

Expanding Beyond NYC

Beyond its activities in New York City, IWS has expanded its footprint with the acquisitions of Oak Ridge Waste & Recycling in Southwestern Connecticut and Marangi Disposal, the largest independent hauler in Orange and Rockland Counties, New York. This growth strategy underscores IWS's commitment to delivering comprehensive waste management solutions across the region.
