Summary:

  • Air India flight AI126 made an emergency U-turn due to 11 clogged toilets.

  • 10-hour ordeal for passengers as only one toilet was available for over 300 travelers.

  • Viral videos captured the chaos, showing frustrated passengers on board.

  • Recent complaints indicate a pattern of poor customer service from Air India.

In an astonishing incident, passengers aboard an Air India flight from Chicago to Delhi were compelled to make an emergency U-turn back to the U.S. due to clogged toilets on the aircraft. The flight, AI126, which took off on March 6, 2025, was forced to circle back after 11 out of 12 toilets became unusable, resulting in a 10-hour ordeal for the travelers.

The Technical Issue Behind the Turnaround

According to a spokesperson from the airline, the decision to return was made about four and a half hours into the flight, while the plane was over Greenland. Passengers reported that only one functioning toilet was available for over 300 people on board. Upon landing back in Chicago, all passengers and crew disembarked without incident, and accommodations were provided to alleviate the inconvenience.

Viral Videos Capture the Chaos

As reports emerged, a video shared on X by user @dom_lucre showcased the chaotic atmosphere onboard, quickly going viral. The footage depicted frustrated passengers engaging with crew members regarding the toilet situation. The user pointed out that although it’s not uncommon for airplane toilets to become clogged, issues often arise when passengers flush unauthorized items.

A Pattern of Complaints

This incident is not isolated; Air India has faced numerous complaints recently. For instance, Jaiveer Shergill, a spokesperson for the Bhartiya Janata Party, publicly criticized the airline on social media for having broken seats, poor staff, and inadequate ground support. Another passenger, Nilesh Bansal, expressed his discontent after being downgraded to economy class to accommodate Air India crew members, including a pilot.

This incident raises serious concerns about Air India's customer service standards, with many passengers expressing their dissatisfaction and calling for improvements.
