For many Americans, choosing between Home Depot or Lowe's often depends on location or product selection. However, both stores have recently introduced AI customer service features that could change the game for DIYers.
Home Depot's Magic Apron Smart Tool
On March 6, Home Depot launched Magic Apron, an innovative AI tool available on their app and website product pages. This tool is designed to provide expert advice and answers, much like having a store associate at your fingertips.
Magic Apron utilizes a proprietary knowledge base, combining large datasets with Home Depot's expertise. Imagine asking questions like:
- "How do I know what size pressure washer I need?"
- "How many bags of mulch do I need for a small garden bed?"
It offers detailed answers and calculations tailored to your project needs. According to Jordan Broggi, EVP of Customer Experience, the goal is to deliver the same level of service online as in-store. Future updates will include design ideas, product comparisons, and tailored support for professional contractors.
Lowe's Mylow AI Assistant
Just a day before, Lowe's introduced its own AI assistant, Mylow, developed in collaboration with OpenAI. Mylow aims to provide expert advice for home improvement projects, accessible anywhere via the MyLowe’s Rewards platform. Currently, it’s available only to loyalty members on desktop and mobile, with plans to expand to the Lowe's app later this year, including voice capabilities.
